Borat takes a dive

DiversWorld's Australian FreeDive Championships sets new frontiers for swim wear and leave competitors gasping for breath!

As all eyes were turned to the last event of Day 2 of the FreeDive Championships in Lake Eacham's chilled waters; no one - judges, safety divers or camera crew alike were quiet prepared for Gladstone Freediver John Pingelly's unexpected debut in the marine fashion stakes.

John was attempting the Unassisted FreeDive Challenge (UFC), where competitors swim down into the murk without the aid of mask, fins or wetsuit. Unfortunately for the spectators, there was nothing in the rules about sporting a mankini!

To his credit, John did reach a depth of 19m which could be argued as world's first for a Borat inspired performance!

These are probably the only images (tastfully cropped) that we could run without risking the censors wrath! See more reports results and highlights from the competition here.
