3 Tips How To Best Care For Your Dive Mask
Here are our 3 Tips How To Best Care For Your Dive Mask. Masks are one of the most important pieces of diving gear – they are essentially your eyes underwater.
1. Prevent fogging up:
Before first using a new mask, make sure to clear the silicone factory seal from its lens. Otherwise the mask will always fog up, no matter how much defog solution or spit you rub into it.
To remove the silicone, use a buffer or toothpaste to remove the silicone. Rub it into the lens, let it set for a few minutes, then rinse it off. Repeat twice and you’re all set.
Ready to go dive? Always apply a defog solution to your mask before going for a dive session. Alternatively, spit also works. Just make sure to rinse the mask before putting it on your face!
2. Mask maintenance:
After each dive, rinse the mask with fresh water – even after dives in the pool. Keep your mask out of direct sunlight as much as possible and store it in a cool, dry place.
3. Mask storage:
Keep your mask, and anything made from clear silicone away from any neoprene and rubber as the colours will leach into the silicone and discolour it.
