Gear Care and Maintenance - Diversworld Spearfishing Diving Cairns Australia

3 Tips How To Best Care For Your Fins

A well fitting pair of fins can make all the difference – here is how to make them last.

1. Every day fin care:

Rinse your fins all over (including inside the foot pockets) with fresh water after each dive session, even after the pool.

To clean the rubber parts of your fins, especially coloured accents, use a non-acetone based nail cleaner such as butyl acetate, ethyl acetate or isopropyl alcohol.

2. Fins maintenance:

Periodically, rub a few drops of food grade liquid silicone into the rubber parts of your fins with a clean, dry cloth This will protect them, similar to how leather preserver protects your shoes. Let the fins absorb the silicone for an hour or so before wiping off excess silicone and storing them in a dry, cool place.

3. Fins storage:

Avoid exposing your fins to direct sunlight for extended periods.
